Life Drawing with Oat Montien

Thai illustrator, writer and Tom of Finland Artist-in-Residence Oat Montien leads a still life drawing workshop with the iconic model Terry Miller. Enjoy the view and the sun on your cheeks as Oat instructs us on shading, perspective and fine details in this beginners level class.

About Tom of Finland Foundation AIR

In 1980, Tom began to stay at Durk Dehner’s home in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, becoming the original Artist-in-Residence. Eventually the residence became known as “TOM House” and now serves as the Foundation’s HQ. Over the last 15 years Tom of Finland Foundation (ToFF) has hosted their Artist-In-Residence Program.

About Oat Montien

Born in Bangkok’s Donmaung area, Oat Montien began his love for art while acting as lighting tech for his mothers erotic shows held at her brothel. It sparked the beginning of his fascination with the way light tells stories as it illuminate the human form.

As an adult, Oat began to teach life drawing classes from his studio focusing on drawing as a tool to investigate queer desire to create an environment of intimacy and liberation. His classes incorporated elements such as pranayama breathing techniques, NASA soundscapes, Oscar Wilde poetry and projections. He has shown at some of Thailand’s most prestigious institutions such as Museum of Natural History, National Library, Bangkok CityCity Gallery, Patpong Museum and many more.

In 2020, Oat founded Boddhisattava Gallery , Thailand’s first art space exclusive for South-East Asian queer artists and creators. He is also a contributors of GQ Thailand.
