ABOUT

ANALOG / DIALOG – Ace Hotel Brooklyn is giving BOMB a place to do the thing that’s kept us turning their pages for four decades: providing a platform for artists to talk to artists.

BOMB invites artists for an intimate dialogue & performance — an exploration of what inspires them, what challenges them, where they are and where they want to go. BOMB Magazine is available to read in all of our hotel rooms, quarterly.

BOMB Magazine: Artists in conversation, since 1981. Quarterly in print & every day online.

JJJJerome Ellis is a multidisciplinary artist whose oeuvre spans music, literature, and storytelling performances. In 2021, he released The Clearing as a book with Wendy’s Subway, and as an album co-produced by Northern Spy/NNA Tapes and the Poetry Project. The Clearing, which began as an essay Ellis wrote in 2020, intertwines his personal experiences— including a recording of a Barnes & Noble employee hanging up on him because of the pause created by his stutter—with his accounts of how slaves used music to resist subjection. Ellis incorporates this narrative with melodic loops of the saxophone, flute, piano, hammered dulcimer, synthesizers, and programming, and throughout he treats his stutter as an instrument to seek the liberatory possibilities of music against hegemonic regimes of time, speech, and sound.

Mikaal Sulaiman is a Tony award nominated multi-disciplinary artist who works across film, tv, and theatre. Mikaal is a writer, director, sound designer, and composer.

As a writer, he is currently in a writer’s room on a new episodic show for A24/Amazon created by Ramy Youssef. He most recently collaborated with his older brother, Amir Sulaiman, on a short film called Laying Flowers.:.Setting Fires for which he was the Creative Director and Editor.

He has received artist residencies at Mercury Store in Brooklyn, Space on Ryder Farm in Upstate New York, UCross Foundation in Wyoming, as well as VoxFest at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.

As a sound designer and composer he has worked on award winning productions that include: Fat Ham (Broadway), Death of a Salesman (Broadway), Cost of Living (Broadway), Macbeth (Broadway), Thoughts of a Colored Man (Broadway), Sanctuary City (New York Theatre Workshop), Rags Parkland (Ars Nova), Fairview (Soho Rep) *Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama, and Underground Railroad Game (Ars Nova), among others.
