Integratron

2477 Belfield Boulevard, Landers, CA 92285 – This link opens in a new browser tab

The desert has offered visionary architects shelter and inspiration. Since the 1920s, some of the world’s most visionary architects emigrated to the desert to put the idea of an architecture that grows organically from its environment into action — you can take a self- or pro-guided tour of the desert modern homes and buildings designed by the likes of Richard Neutra, Albert Frey, John Lautner, William F. Cody and Donald Wexler. The Integratron is truly one of the weirdest and best things not only in the low desert but in the world. You can set your mind spinning with a 60-minute sound bath in an all-wood, acoustically-perfect dome built by Nikola Tesla-disciple George Van Tassel — the currents harness electromagnetic oscillations to rejuvenate cells, enhance well-being and increase the peace.

Joshua Tree National Park

74485 National Park Drive, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277 – This link opens in a new browser tab

A world famous eco-marvel and, in our humble opinion, a must-see. Joshua Tree National Park is a world famous eco-marvel and a must-see, not only for the eponymous yucca that defines the Mojave Desert section of the Park. Formations like Skull Rock, Giant Marbles and Hall of Horrors are rock candy for geo-buffs and climbers. The Cholla Cactus Garden, Twentynine Palms Oasis and sunsets at Hidden Valley offer rough-hewn vistas unlike any you’ve likely seen. Joshua Tree is also a center for rock and roll rebirth, electronic folk music, new age naiveté, high art, low art and everything in-between.

Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace

53688, Pioneertown Road, Pioneertown, CA 92268 – This link opens in a new browser tab

Pappy & Harriet’s is one of our favorite stars in the bright constellation of Californian surreality. Pappy’s is a place we heard about long before we ever went to Palm Springs and happened upon an old WeHo and Denny’s and moved into it. It was the stuff of legends — how Robert Plant rolled in one night and played a set while everyone washed down their BBQ ribs with whiskey and sang along. How you’re never sure what year you’re in when you’re wandering past the swinging doors and low-slung porches on your way to hang with the horses and stare off at the black hills. When we finally saw it for ourselves, it was love at first sight. Hours: Thursday-Sunday: 11am-2am Monday: 5pm-2am Usually closed Tuesday and Wednesday
